Test Manager (£55k - £65k) – Belfast
It is essential that software houses put a Test Strategy in place.
A good Test Strategy provides a systematic approach to the software testing process. It ensures quality, traceability, reliability, and better planning.
Initially, a lot of software houses don’t put one in place particularly when they are just starting. Testing is done on an ad hoc basis by developers and testers and that works…for a while.
Eventually, they reach a size when more structure must be put in place and that is exactly what has happened with my client.
My client is a global company that writes software for the financial services sector. They employ around 200 people across New York, London, Amsterdam, and Belfast.
Since 2016, they have bought four companies including one in Belfast. They now have some major greenfield projects as they plan to integrate data from across all products, providing a single consolidated venue so that their clients gain business insight from the data.
They have software testers in place, but they now need a Test Manager to own the test strategy and execution.
The Test Manager will report directly to the CTO and they will be responsible for software quality by ensuring every new feature has automated unit tests and regression tests, every bug fix has automated regression testing, as they expand their coverage across all software products for automated regression testing.
Initially, you will assess the current testing capability, identifying areas for improvement, and the ideal end state, and then define and agree a testing strategy with the CTO.
You will then lead and manage the implementation and ongoing execution of the testing strategy. You will work closely with Development Managers to enable them to produce higher-quality software. You will also work closely with Product Management and Customer Success for user acceptance testing.
This role is very much hands-on with a heavy focus on Automation. You need to be able to write and execute test scripts and assist with test automation as well as managing the function.
You'll be at a senior or team lead level. We will happily consider someone who is ‘stepping up’ into the Test Manager position but it is essential that you have experience defining and implementing a test strategy for a business. Ideally, you will have experience leading a team including in-house and offshore/outsourced staff.
