Software Developer (SQL) - Dungannon

Are you a software developer who is based in County Tyrone and travelling to Belfast every day for work?  Would you like to join one of the largest companies in the UK and cut down on your daily commute?

This software development job is based in Dungannon and comes with a salary of circa £25k - £35k per annum.

Who is the company?

You would be working for one of the most successful companies to come out of Ireland.  They have just acquired another site in Dungannon which brings their total number of sites in Ireland and the UK to twelve.  They employ over seven thousand people, export to over fifty countries, and turnover more than two billion annually.

What is the IT team like?

You would be working with an IT team which is split across Dungannon, Waterfoot, and Preston.  They currently employ five developers, four project managers and nine business analysts.  They would like to add 2-3 more developers to the site in Dungannon.

You could be involved in up to eight different projects at once.  The work is delivered through a Business Analyst or the service desk.  If a substantial issue comes through the service desk, a Business Analyst might also get involved.

What does this software job involve?

You will be working as part of a team which is responsible for supporting and developing a range of systems across multiple sites within a major UK and Ireland employer.  You will develop SQL reporting for line of business and back office application systems. You will need to gather new requirements, analysis your findings and then development new features.

Most of my client’s software is ‘of the shelf’ so most of the work will involve integrating software into the existing system.  You will work closely with BI team to deliver and support database extracts used in BI dashboards and reports.  You will also support, re-write, and tune existing reports and queries.  Initially, a lot of the work will revolve around supporting the existing system through the service desk, however, there is also a lot of greenfield projects coming through the pipeline.

What skills are required?

You’ll have around 2-3 years of commercial experience in SQL Server 2005/2008/2012.  You will also need experience producing reports in SSRS or a similar reporting package.  You should have strong T-SQL coding experience and a proven track record in SQL development – specifically an ability to write and troubleshoot SQL code (stored procedures, functions, tables, views, triggers, index, constraints).
