IT Manager

We are looking for an experienced IT Engineer or Systems Administrator for a job that is immediately available in Newtownabbey. If you have experience in the maintenance and administration of servers, desktop/laptop PC’s, printers and mobile devices including troubleshooting and support, then we would like to hear from you.

This is for an initial 4-month contract with a view to go permanent at the end of that period. The salary is negotiable depending on experience. We are using a salary band of £28k - £32k per annum.

Please note that this job does not involve any people management but purely the management of the ICT infrastructure within this business.

Who is the company?

My client is based in Newtownabbey and has just entered their 25th year in business. They are officially Northern Irelands’ largest social enterprise that has been delivering recycling services for over two decades. They began its first recycling project in 1993 with the Cash for Cans scheme where they encouraged people to recycle aluminium drinks cans by providing accessible collection points at locations such as supermarkets where they could be exchanged for cash. In 2001 they set up a pilot kerbside recycling programme in partnership with Belfast City Council, Ards Borough Council and Castlereagh Borough Council. 

It was during 2004 and 2005 that my client through a very substantial period of growth, thanks to winning several local authority contracts in quick succession. The number of employees jumped from 30 to over 200 in 12 months and they relocated their operations to Newtownabbey, as they rolled out kerbside box service out to 170,000 households and built a state of the art MRF to process recyclables collected from a further 250,000 households. 

What does this job involve?

The successful IT Manager will be responsible for the maintenance and administration of all servers, desktop/laptop PC’s, printers and mobile devices including troubleshooting and support. This will include the management, installation, and configuration of IP phone systems. Initially, the successful candidate will evaluate all the systems in place and make necessary changes across all depots. 
The IT Manager is responsible for the support and maintenance of the network infrastructure. There is a CCTV system that is run across the network which the IT Manager will have to maintain. There is also an element of looking after the internal database. This will include data management, maintaining the accuracy of data, and taking responsibility for the development of data analysis, reporting systems and producing reports. You will also need to manage the relationships within contracted IT hardware and software companies and manage cost-effective procurement and budgets for IT.
