Graduate Software Tester

This job is based in Antrim and comes with a salary of £21k per annum with a bonus of £1k. The salary increases quite rapidly in this position. Typically, the salary will increase by 15% after the first year then 10% in year two and 10% in year three. The salary also includes an extensive benefits package that includes a company pension, private health cover, gym membership, free lunches, flexitime, free car parking and a personal allowance for non-work related training.
Who is the company?
This is a local company that was set up 22 years ago and employs around 170 at its state of the art custom built facility in Antrim. They create literacy and language learning software solutions for the education and corporate market sectors. These products aim to help support people who have difficulty reading and writing or those for whom English is not their first language.
My client’s products are experiencing major growth overseas, particularly in North America and the Asia Pacific region. They also sell into Europe, South America, and South Africa and recently set up a new office in Australia. They have offices in Boston and in Brisbane.
Due to the expansion of its product range, they have had to invest heavily in additional staff with new skill sets. In the last 6 months, they have hired over 20 new people.
What is the working environment like?
Although the company has experienced phenomenal growth they maintain a relaxed working environment. They operate with a flat structure and, although the software testing team is busy, they are not put under too much stress and strain. There is also room to progress your career.
What does this job involve?
The software testing team currently has eight members. My client has an extensive product line which has a dedicated team of developers and testers.
My client uses the Agile methodology and testing is split 50-50 into automated and manual. All regression testing is now automated. When a product has been given new functionality, this is tested through manual methods. Once this is completed it is then automated.
This is a graduate position, so full training will be provided.
What skills and experience are needed?
We will accept applications from candidates who have a third level qualification in an IT related subject. You must have 1 year’s commercial experience in either a testing, development or support capacity. The successful candidate will be someone who loves software engineering and has a real thirst for knowledge. Software will be their passion and they will be able to demonstrate work they have completed in their own time wither that would be websites they have designed, mobile apps or even games they have developed.
