Are you a qualified accountant who is frustrated at the lack of senior job opportunities in the west of the province? This may well be an opportunity that you’ll be interested in if you live in the south Derry/Londonderry, west Tyrone or Fermanagh areas.
This is a relatively new job for a Financial Controller within a well-established, locally owned company operating primarily in the construction and building services sector. They also have interests in the healthcare and hotels sectors, and they have ambitious plans for future growth which could see turnover double in the coming years. As well as exciting new projects, they have a very strong base of repeat clients and similarly they have really low staff turnover. The company is very values-led and has a strong corporate social responsibility focus. They have regular fundraising events for local charities including St Vincent de Paul and Marie Curie. They are also finalists in two categories in local industry awards.
The Financial Controller will be the person who is responsible for navigating the path through this sustained period of growth and you’ll oversee the full finance function that ensures maximum profitability and excellent management information on an ongoing basis. There is currently a small team of accounting technicians who you’ll supervise, each of whom looks after the accounts to trial balance for their own group business. You’ll prepare the management accounts, budgets, business plans and as part of the senior management team, proactively input into company strategy and commercial decision support. You’ll also manage relationships with the auditors, banks, ensure compliance with HMRC and Irish Revenue requirements and be involved in grant claim submissions.
You’ll be a qualified accountant with around 5 years’ post qual experience in a fast-paced industry environment; building services or construction would be a plus. As the senior finance person in the company, you’ll have a track record of supporting and challenging non-financial managers with KPIs and numbers and you’ll also show that you’re proactive and someone who can communicate at all levels across a fast-growing business. You’ll have experience of cross border trading as a significant amount of business will be in the RoI and experience of acquisitions or some corporate finance would be great.
