Founded by Brian McCloskey in 1987, Woodland has established itself as one of the leading manufacturers of kitchen, bedroom, and bathroom furniture. Over the years, they have partnered with some of the UK's largest retailers to manufacture design-led bathroom furniture to appeal to their customer base.

Their contracts division also design and manufacture kitchen, bedroom, and bathroom furniture for large-scale residential, student accommodation and hotel projects. From design through to installation, they meticulously manage our projects to seamlessly work in tandem with their contractors' schedule.

Woodland’s success lies in the fact they are primarily a design led business which has successfully developed collaborative and creative partnerships with their clients, through just in time manufacturing principals. This role is a new addition to the Senior Management Team in Woodland and has been created to bring more structure, efficiencies, and control within their growing business, while also identifying & accessing new commercial opportunities.

Role Accountability

  • To bring more structure to the business in terms of reporting, people, process, and control. Map the current “where” is within the Woodland, identify & agree the “where we want to get to” and action these plans.
  • Deep analysis of company finances, including departmental budgets to identify waste and drive efficiencies enabling them to hold departments to budgetary account.
  • Work closely with the Head of Finance to evolve the current financial reporting & controls, providing the deep dive analysis within trends & variances, as well as the opportunities identified within financial reporting. Review the current financial reporting and identify areas for improvement, ensuring the right financial reporting is provided for the appropriate audience.
  • Commercial scrutiny of all new contracts working with the sales team to assess viability and actual profitability of contracts beyond overall contract value. Evaluate profitability versus turnover, ensuring that new contracts are assessed in line with overall company financial objectives.
  • Analyse current company contractual obligations, assessing and rating these contracts against commercial objectives & profitability. Identify where the business is making its best returns, enabling the business to concentrate on the most profitable contracts.
  • Own external partner relationships, with Banks, Investment partners to negotiate & leverage the best outcomes for the business.
  • Provide analysis and business cases for all capital spend (including acquisition opportunities), identifying risk, return and commercial benefit versus cost.
  • Ownership, implementation, and delivery of change programmes which drive efficiencies within the business.
  • Mentoring the existing Management Team, making them more commercially aware, providing them with learning opportunities within commercial decision making.
  • Assess how the business is currently working, are there areas for improvement such as overtime costs versus profitability. Identify solutions and the risk / benefits of each solution to enable the business to make informed decisions utilising accurate data.
  • Utilise internal IT systems, ensuring we are using the right data to drive informed management decision making.
