Automation Developer (C#), Belfast, £40k - £45k

If you are a software developer, why should you consider a career in test automation?

Firstly, it can make you a better developer as the code you write tends to be broader and it is at a sweet spot in the development cycle.  You can really gain a feel for what is likely to go wrong with software and so code for failure instead of coding for success.

Secondly, you get to write code that exercises the product as a whole which is often more interesting and more rewarding than spending time optimizing one little corner case.  You get a more holistic view of the product which leads to a better understanding of how the various pieces interact.

Thirdly, you would be the first hire in a brand-new testing team-based Belfast.

A Belfast company launched in 2014 and immediately disrupted the market data management industry by using technology to streamline market data reporting and administration.

They immediately got the attention of a fintech London-based company who specialises in helping firms manage their high-value data subscriptions.  The CEO has known the founders of the Belfast-based company since they set up and was impressed with their focus in helping their clients address the ever-increasing compliance challenges.

This is the third acquisition this global business has made in the last 3 years.  They now employ over 100 people across offices in New York, Minnesota, The Netherlands, London and Belfast.
The plan is now to make Belfast the development hub for the whole company and hence the need to establish a test team.

We’re looking for a software developer with around 3 years’ experience using C# and JavaScript.  Ideally, you would have some experience with Selenium but it’s not essential as it can be learned quickly. You will be focused on developing automated test scenarios including the creation of test web sites, advising the QA team in London regarding the manual testing plans and writing automated tests using Selenium.

You will be part of the development team that works on the system that allows companies to manage and analyse their research and information subscriptions.  It’s a platform that has multiple components including webservice API’s, web applications, browser extensions, window services, cloud services, mobile apps and more.

The culture still has the feel of an exciting start-up but with the added security of a global company.  This is a chance to join at the ground level and help build something special moving forward. They have plans to hire 20 people over the coming months, so this job provides real career progression as the company grows.
